A fair amount of history revolves around this institution with its eight decades of existence - having witnessed both, the birth of a new independent nation and the technological advances that have revolutionized the society. Admission to this premier institution is via a competitive entrance examination administered by the State Government at a national level. This system ensures a fine pick of young minds from the society. Indeed, its alumni, have excelled in their endeavors. The Institute owes its name to Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler who was the Governor of the state at the time of its inception.
